Alright, Becca has been hounding me to finally finish this post that I started over a month ago, so here you go....
Several weeks back we headed down to Denver to celebrate an event that we occasionally thought might never happen. Dave's good friend Matt Lazzeri married the wonderful and beautiful Nicole Stender. Good work, Matt. Somehow Dave and his friends tend to marry far above themselves and Matt has carried this tradition on with honor.
The weekend was exhausting, but well worth it. We got in late on Friday and stayed up to the wee hours chatting with Uncle Arlo and Aunt Liz (Thank you for sharing your home with us!!!). Saturday was packed from dawn to dusk with an adventure to a Thomas the Train exhibit at the Colorado Railroad Museum in the morning and rehearsal and dinner in the afternoon and evening.
Genevieve was a hit at the rehearsal and dinner. She has learned how to effectively charm most adults. She started calling the bride's mother "Grandma" after a few minutes and by the end of the night I think Nicole's mom was ready to take Genevieve home with her.
Sunday we went to church at the congregation where Dave grew up and were able to see lots of great family friends from Dave's childhood and then the big event of the Lazzeri-Stender wedding. In typical Lazzeri fashion, the wedding was outdoors on a beautiful hole at the LCC. Even on his wedding day, Matt needed to spend most of the day on the golf course. Way to be true to yourself buddy.
The wedding almost went off without a hitch if you can gloss over the fact that it was a beautiful day expect for the crazy wind and rain storm that showed up right as Matt and Nikki were exchanging their vows. I felt bad for them as the sound system went out right after the tent over the quartet collapsed and then blew away. Being Johnny on the spot, I considered diving into a lake where the quartet's sheet music had blown into, but settled for spending most of the rest of the ceremony dutifully holding was was left of their communion wine that managed to get blown over in the midst of the commotion.
Despite the snafu, nothing seemed to phase the lucky couple and they were as happy as ever for the rest of the night.
Somehow I failed to get a decent shot of Matt and Nicole on their big day, but managed to get a few of the rest of the fabled "Broship". Enjoy....
I have to give serious props to Travis Barnett for being the dance champ of the evening. Somehow just as the reception was winding down, an evening's worth of cocktails kicked in and you could not get this guy off the dance floor. Lucky for me, it meant that Becca had someone to dance with that REALLY wanted to dance.
